Jan Brewerton
Jan Brewerton gained her Art Foundation Diploma at the University of Wolverhampton, a B.A in Fine Art at Coventry University, and, after two years in Italy, completed her postgraduate studies at Goldsmith’s College, London. Initially a painter, she has more recently returned to an early interest in printmaking. Her subjects and motifs arise from diverse sources: the domestic environment, travel and nature. Details often overlooked in life. The counterpoint of home and the world. Individual works begin as close studies of everyday domestic objects – vessels, artefacts, implements, textiles, fruit forms, and natural materials. These motifs are transfigured through colour, and through multiple techniques of mark-making and collage within the internal architecture of the picture plane. Her interest is primarily in the complex balance of figuration and abstraction achieved in the painted and printed image. Jan is a member of The Devon Guild of Craftsmen |
